You are probably familiar already with the fact that in the Latin script, the top halves of letters are more important for character recognition than the bottom halves.
The question was just posed by @Tosche_E: how does this apply to other scripts such as Devanagari? My quick reply was that it doesn’t work for Devanagari at least. The middle section of the letters is the most important, but there is too much other information above and below the letters that you simply can’t ignore.
