2006 Archive

31/October/06

Things started off fairly slowly here at Reading, but they are steadily picking up. This means, unfortunately, there will be no new art updates for the time being. Instead, check out the type section to see a running log of all the interesting things happening here in England.

Many Changes

The site is getting updated rather signifigantly. Most changes are in the back end, but the overall superficial appearance is getting overhauled too. For the time being some pages will not be available, but they will be online again soon with new content. Thanks for visiting.

The special tsunami edition of Building Letters is finally available. There were only 1000 copies made, so get yours now. It is a beautiful publication, it comes with many interesting fonts, and of course the money goes to an important cause.

Shortly after the last update my aging G4 powermac died. If there is anyone out there with an extra or unneeded MDD Dual 1ghz logic board and/or processors that they would like to donate or trade some sculpture for please let me know.

There are still many more updates and changes on the way for YSLTT. Hopefully they will take place before the end of September when I will be leaving to attend ATypI and then the MATD program in Reading.

17/August/06

TypeCon 2006 was quite a nice conference. Again this year I had planned on showing some art in the type gallery, but last minute disasters prevented it. It was unfortunate to not contribute, but on the other hand this year was much less stressful and allowed me to fully be immersed in the lectures and mingling, rather than be bogged down with behind-the-scenes work. It is truly amazing how much time and effort the SOTA board and volunteers put into making this all happen. They make their labors as transparent as possible so the attendees can appreciate the weekend; often times though, it is difficult to realize how much planning (before, during, & after) the conference requires. Great work again!

14/August/06

Well well well, TypeCon turned out to be a crazy week(end). There were many great talks and as always there was an incredible type gallery and hundreds of friendly, interesting people. I am in Boston for a bit longer, but expect a writeup and hundreds of photos here in the next few days.

8/August/06

TypeCon 2006 has finally arrived. There will hopefully be an update or two during the conference, but be sure to check back right after the show is over for more new stuff. There are loads of new art projects waiting to be finished and photographed, more things to get uploaded to the site, TypeCon notes and photo galleries, and much more.

It has been a busy month. Lots of new projects will be online in the coming weeks. Even more new directions are in the works for YSLTT this summer.

Check out the TypeCon website, as of the other day it is somewhat online.

14/April/06 Just Added:

A recently finished neon project sculpture is now online here. I have access to a neon shop for a couple weeks, so we will see what else I can come up with.

12/April/06

If you are in, or will be traveling through, central Illinois in the next couple months check out Bradley University in Peoria to see some real, live, ceramic, letter-art things.* The 2nd Contemporary Ceramic Invitational features eleven artists ranging from the big named veterans to some new ones to watch out for.

*Not all of the work is letter related, only my pieces... still totally worth seeing though.

05/April/06

Rick Valicenti and company are a fun bunch. It was great speaking with you
again Rick, and a pleasure meeting you Robb and Gina. Sorry I didn't get the chance to talk with you John.

The site is nearing completion and nearing the official Version One. Until then, please have a look around at the projects and stories already online. In the next few days there will be updates to the ART section to include some recent projects executed in London, Paris, and Amsterdam.
