About these photos:

These incredible photos were sent in from Ye Tattoo Shoppe INC. While these aren’t the most beautiful snapshots, the content of the images makes up for it. Amazingly, Anna (pictured) requested and received a full back tattoo of a type specimen sheet. The tattoo is directly out of Jan Tschichold’s Treasury of Alphabets and Lettering page 129 - Garamont italique. Against the best wishes of the Tattoo Shoppe, the entire tattoo was done in one marathon sitting, thanks to two different artists. Normally they said they don’t share projects such as this, but felt it best to tag team it to get the job done.

About the submitter:

D (pictured)(stands for Doug, but he doesn’t like his name so he goes by D) sent these photos in and told us this wonderful story. D, also known as Little D because of the older Damon in the Shoppe, worked to help finish up this tat with Damon back in April 2005. He especially loves tattooing letters, but he said this is the first one he has seen that doesn’t actually spell something. He has done a few acronyms, but this is the first type specimen he has worked on and thinks it is the first in the world. When asked what page he would like to have tattooed on him from Tschichold’s book, he replied “I don’t know yet, but sure as fuck not page 166.”
